Vlog: Family Date Night

The mister and I have been trying very hard to have more date nights and while getting ready for one such occasion a few weeks ago, Ava asked, "Well, what do you do on dates anyways?" So, I promised her we would go on a family date night in the near future. Well, the near future arrived last night. . So, here you have it. Our night began with an early evening movie, Epic, which happened to be Oliver's very first movie, then moved onto one of our favorite dinner places, Sugar Cane, and was supposed to end with coffee and gelato at a local favorite, but they ended up being closed. So, as a consolation prize, we put on jammies and played a game of Charades. My heart is full this morning because we all had such a blast together and have plans to have more family date nights. Bea is obsessed with a great app, Video Star, on her iPod and wanted to make a movie about our night...Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

A Vlogging Experiment with My Little Writer

I was doing post-bedtime clean up the other night and found a notebook Bea has been carrying around everywhere. She is really, really, really into writing right now. The minute she comes home from school, she grabs a snack and heads up to her room to write. I opened the notebook and found a plethora of stories and drawings. Devin and I sat down and read them together and were so moved by our little lady's words. Truth be told, things are not the easiest for Bea. It is her private struggle and she alone will decide to ever talk about it, but looking at her writing, I know she is finding solace, confidence, and release through pen and paper. Believe me, I know that feeling. So, I was trying to figure out a way to keep these creative tidbits of Bea and decided to record her reading them to me, a vlog of sorts. They are little treasures to me because I am no fool--soon enough she will not want to share them with me and I'm certain I may be a not so favorable character in her stories. I'll take what I can get now...
